Kicking and Screaming (2005)

I don't think this movie is as bad as some people say, I actually found it enjoyable. Will Ferrell is a jerk, but Robert Duvall levels up the story. The kids were also rather good, especially the two Italians :)

The Last Legion (2007)

The movie has potential - a very good cast, a very experienced boy actor, and a thrilling story. However, it is shot and produced as a B-movie. Especially the final scenes, which would have been grand in a feature blockbuster, were lame and reminiscent of low budget production of the 80s.

The Legend of Zorro (2005)

Entertaining film for the masses. Zorro's son has a decent amount of screen time.

Little Giants (1994)

Right, a solid 6 to my mind. It is of course a very simple and poorly delivered story, but the idea is good nonetheless. I liked the interaction between Rick Moranis and Ed O'Neill. The actual fight on the pitch was also funny and not too bad. Great kids movie with a nice message, if you're able to detect it: Believe in yourself!

Lizzie McGuire (2001-2003)

I think this series is not too bad. Some parts of it really have a message and are well-acted by the main cast. There's much worse out there. So, if you're young enough at heart, give it a try.

Lost In Space (1998)

This is a nice science-fiction story. It has some great images and solid acting, nice twists and a straight script. I wouldn't watch it again though, as it has nothing particularly special to it.

The Magic of Marciano (2000)

A better boyactor would have made more of a generally very good story.

La Mala educación (2004)

Okay, the movie was not bad. At least not too bad. The whole story does so extensively deal with homosexual scenes that I wondered if they really had to do this. The story itself - good, almost brilliant. The thing is after the first half of the movie, the storyline decreases and turns into an ordinary crime story. It's just the old priest and the young actor trying to kill Angel. What I did like was the sequences of the two boys in that school. Right, boys of that age can experience some kind of attraction to friends and other boys, and even sexual encounters are not too extra-ordinary. But it almost appeared to me that you have to be gay just because you grew up in this school run by priests. That's a bit too biased. The mixing of narratives and time settings was okay, it added some sophisticated element to the story. Nonetheless not one of my favorites.

Max Keeble's Big Move (2001)

Average family entertainment. I mean the idea behind the whole plot is quite nice, but there's simply too many similar movies out there. It has nothing special to it. The actors give a decent performance though, and the movie is funny occasionally.

Mio min Mio (1987)

I think this movie is more or less for younger kids. Yeah, I watched and enjoyed it, but it is filled with very simple and sometimes corny elements and sequences that were a bit too modest for me. The two actors were great though, their performances were definitely okay. I like Christian Bale a lot and - to be honest - bought this one just because he is in it. Nicholas Pickard was genuine and smart as well. Again, I just felt a bit too old for it, I thought it was presented like a fairy tale.

The Next Best Thing (2000)

I admit that the beginning is just cheesy and absolutely horrible, riddled with stereotypes and awkward performances. It gets better from the moment on when Madonna confronts Rupert Everett's character (Robert) with his upcoming paternity. The moral implications of a gay man and a straight woman deciding to raise a child together are indeed challenging and very much up-to-date. Here the comedy aspect is overlaid by some sincere issues that make this movie more interesting than the beginning has implied.

The movie even turns into a family drama and becomes very emotional. You will love Malcolm Stumpf as Sam, the protagonists' son. He is very convincing and shows substantial natural talent, which adds considerable quality to the story. The final dramatic climax is an ensuing court room struggle for custody of the little boy between Robert and Madonna with her new boyfriend Ben. This causes very strong moral and emotional implications. Robert's desperate struggle and his honest commitment to be together with his beloved son goes straight into your heart and addresses the issue of homosexuals and their rights to raise children. Here again Malcolm Stumpf bears a significant part of the emotional burden, and does so genuinely.

This movie is very simple in its equipment, but the messages delivered and the characters portrayed make it worthwhile. Rupert Everett does a great job, and Madonna shows that she can act if she has to. It is a very tough subject, and in the end you will not consider the movie a comedy any longer. This is a good thing.

Overboard (1987)

An absolutely hilarious story that is entirely unrealistic. However, it has some positive and funny scenes you should watch out for. I personally didn't get bored; although it lacks a real sophisticated element, it is enjoyable. Give it a try.
