Malcolm in the Middle (2000-2006)
What can I say? To this day I enjoy watching Malcolm in the Middle. The cast is wonderful, the script is very enjoyable and the different stories are smart. The boys do a fine job, indeed. Much appreciated!
The Man Without a Face (1993)
Wonderful story, one of my all-time favorites. Nick Stahl and Mel Gibson act magnificently. The story of two outsiders discovering trust and sympathy is tremendously credible and moving. The story is sophisticated and the message is clear: Real friendship is a real gift. Nick Stahl again is just great, so smart and lively. He bears the emotional burden of the story with unique confidence.
Martian Child (2007)
The story is one of those that combines comedy with real drama - a good combination. There's a bunch of good messages in there, and the interaction between Bobby Coleman and John Cusack is worth watching.
My Movie Rating:Max Keeble's Big Move (2001)
Average family entertainment. I mean the idea behind the whole plot is quite nice, but there's simply too many similar movies out there. It has nothing special to it. The actors give a decent performance though, and the movie is funny occasionally.

My Movie Rating:Mean Creek (2004)
The cast is wonderful. Apart from Stand by Me this movie features the finest cast of young male actors seen for a long time congregated in one movie. Ryan Kelley, Rory Culkin, Trevor Morgan - their performances are so genuine and authentic that I had the impression of seeing a documentary rather than a fictional movie. They interact in a natural manner that is stunning in its simplicity and leaves you with the feeling of getting a first-hand insight into the heart and soul of the struggling life of young male adolescents on the brink of adulthood. The language used by the main characters adds to this authenticity and is so clear and unsophisticated as heard on the streets in some suburban neighborhood.
The story is the second major strength of Mean Creek. It features a very simple plot, almost a typical short story as you find it in literary pieces. The story starts abruptly and ends in the same way. The entire plot centers around one incident and its effects on the protagonists - a classic scenario of real life dramas.
The climax is the heart of the movie, its dramatic denouement. A plan to seek retaliation ends in an unimaginable outrage. The way Estes elaborates on the individual characters and their parts in the escalating process is very sophisticated and shows quite plainly how quickly things can turn from good to bad and get out of control. This aspect is very powerful and tremendously authentic, granting the movie enormous dramatic quality. The arising moral struggle that consequently pervades the characters' minds is the central theme of the last third of the movie, focusing on the individual perceptions of good and evil. Carly Schroeder's line "We can never be forgiven", later on reiterated by Rory Culkin, sums up one approach to assessing the ultimate damnability of their collective deed, which leaves all of the characters emotionally and mentally scarred.
The ending is emotionally stirring. When the kids approach the house and stand immovably in front of the porch when George's mom opens the front door is thrashing in its ultimate confession of guilt. Marty's development from emotionally battered by his step dad to thorough despair is smashing and utterly blunt. When he grabs the gun and enters the shop he starts crying. This is when he realizes that he has left behind the last chances of redemption. We do not know what happens to him - he is just a lost soul whose entire existence has perished with the incident at Mean Creek.
Mein Name ist Eugen (2005)
Great boy movie! The kids are just wonderful in their interaction with each other.
My Movie Rating:Mercury Rising (1998)
Right, I can just agree to the previous comments. Miko Hughes aced his part with outstanding supremacy, given the demanding character he had to portray. It levels up the movie's quality which would otherwise have been hardly above the average.
My Movie Rating:Michael Saints (2010)
My Movie Rating:Mickybo and Me (2004)
Wonderful adventure featuring two smart boys.
My Movie Rating:The Mighty Ducks (1992)
I also think that this movie is something for icehockey freaks. I watched it when I was a kid, and yeah, it was okay, but I have seen better adaptations of similar stories.
My Movie Rating:Mikey (1992)
I didn't like it much. Some of the actors are awkward and the visuals are really poor. Not even Brian can add substantial quality.
Milk Money (1994)
To be honest, this is one of the movies I thoroughly enjoyed when I first watched it. Of course it is a simple and predicatble story, but the actual transformation did it for me. The three boys are awesome. The way Melanie Griffith and Ed Harris fall in love with each other and how they find together despite unfavorable circumstances is nicely staged. Michael Patrick Carter is able to assert his character's emotional condition, his expectations and dreams, which puts this movie above the average family story, despite the hackneyed elements it may have. The happy end is indeed rather corny, but hey, the movie has a message, it is entertaining and funny.
My Movie Rating:Millions (2004)

Min far er bokser (2005)
My Movie Rating:Mio min Mio (1987)
I think this movie is more or less for younger kids. Yeah, I watched and enjoyed it, but it is filled with very simple and sometimes corny elements and sequences that were a bit too modest for me. The two actors were great though, their performances were definitely okay. I like Christian Bale a lot and - to be honest - bought this one just because he is in it. Nicholas Pickard was genuine and smart as well. Again, I just felt a bit too old for it, I thought it was presented like a fairy tale.
My Movie Rating:Miracle in Lane 2 (2000)
Frankie Muniz does give a very credible performance here. I mean, yeah, the story itself is nothing too special, but Frankie fills the disabled kid's character with smartness and expertise. His acting is fine. Above the average family entertainment.
My Movie Rating:Mirakel (2000)
I have personally never been able to make much of surreal movies. Mirakel is one of this kind. The dancing and singing scenes are completely over-the-top. Surreal stories generelly tend to lack the kind of genuine thematic quality I look out for. Apart from that the movie is very short. Nothing to praise, rather average.
My Movie Rating:The Mist (2007)
A great boy performance by Nathan Gamble! He is very emotional and absolutely brilliant as the terrified son of Thomas Jane. A typical Stephen King flick - you can actually spot a considerable number of actors who have appeared in previous King adaptations. Andre Braugher, the black lawyer, co-starred in Salem's Lot; Jeffrey DeMunn, who was one of the last survivors in the truck, had a significant role in Storm of the Century; William Sadler, the guy who turned into one of the religious manics, has worked with Darabont before and appeared in the famous Shawshank Redemption (which many don't even associate with King), and Frances Sternhagen, the old woman who was also in the truck with the last group of survivors, appeared in Stephen King's Misery (1990) and his 1991 series Golden Years. But the ultimate cookie for die-hard King fans is to be found in the opening scene, when Thomas Jane sits in his atelier and paints a picture of Roland and the Dark Tower! Wow! A brilliant extra xD
I thought the movie was a classic King story, with clear-cut characters and a situation in which a small group of people, composed of different individuals, finds itself in in a life-threatening scenario that reveals the dynamics of group paranoia and the effects such situations have on people who are cut off from society. A Lord of the Flies variation in a post-modern context. The suspense was always kept at a very high level, and final decision making process involving the escape and the eventual dramatic climax, were truly convincing. The visuals were just fine. Overall, one of the better King adaptations, a Darabont-King masterpiece like its predecessors Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. And a stunning young Nathan :)
