Das Wunder von Bern (2003)

As a football fan, this movie appeals to me indeed. It is true-to-history, honestly depicted, filled with genuine and sophisticated acting performances and based on a historical background. The entire plot centers around the boy, Matthias, and tells the story of the 1954 World Cup through his eyes mainly. He makes this movie special and revives the era of the 50s in Germany, a time when this nation was just recovering from the devastation and the scars of WWII.

The story is solid and very sincere. The acting is wonderful and the depiction of the contemporary setting is superbly staged.

The X Files (1993-2018)

I watched the X-Files on a regular basis a few years ago. It's not for everyone. They have some boys appearing throughout the series, but I actually can't remember any of them. They didn't ever play much of a part in the series. It has other emphases.

Both boys are great in this fantastic adventure.

...First Do No Harm (1997)

Seth is wonderful in here. His mom actually deals with kids who suffer from this disease and she taught him how to behave and what to do. It is an astounding accomplishment for such a young actor to play such a difficult part so genuinely.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)

Yeah, a great movie. It's both Haley's de-luxe performance in one of his most demanding roles and the visual artwork applied by Steven Spielberg. The mother-son aspect is really emotional. I also liked Jake Thomas' appearance, which was short but very smart and straight. Again, there aren't many young actors around who would have succeeded in playing Haley's character in here as sophisticated as he did. Wonderful movie. It's not one of my favorites though, as there's too much emphasis on special and visual effects to my mind that detracts the viewers' attention from the storyline.

The Adventures of Huck Finn (1993)

Yeah, Elijah Wood as Huck Finn? Basically a perfect cast, but here he's a bit too immature for the part. Huck Finn is supposed to be about 14 years old in Mark Twain's novel, and a real rascal. Elijah has a too innocent and literal blue-eyed appearance in this case. Still, the story is nice, adapted for children. I would say, as Elijah hardly ever does anything bad, that the movie is okay, even above the average.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1960)

A nice adaptation of Mark Twain's novel. It's interesting to see how the different movies dealing with Huck Finn and/or Tom Sawyer differ. I remember a sequence from this one where Huck and Jim are fooling folks in a circus ring with Huck pretending to translate Jim's strange jabber.

Apt Pupil (1998)

Wow, what a dark movie! The setting and the atmosphere is wonderfully staged. The interaction between Brad Renfro and Ian McKellen is perfidious, the way they control and manipulate each other is shrewd. It's not so much the visual horror, but the psychological terror that infiltrates their minds. The clinical calculating and the subtle viciousness of both main characters make this movie sinister. Thus the acting to attain this effect has to be very good, what it is indeed. Well thought-through, nice cast, straight acting.

Arachnophobia (1990)

Tough to watch for those who have a spider phobia (as the title already suggests). It was definitely interesting, also with the right amount of suspense and creepy scenes. Jeff Daniels and John Goodman deliver solid performanes. A nice movie indeed.

Arlington Road (1999)

Well-cast thriller that keeps you at the edge of your seat. The boys have little screen time, but Spencer once again aces his part. The ending is unsettling and depressing.

August Rush (2007)

I agree with the previous comments. Freddie did a very good job, but the ending in particular was so very unrealistic and melodramatic I had to smile :)

The story is very nice and inspirational nonetheless.

El Bola (2000)

Good drama. The ending is a bit abrupt and doesn't answer all questions, which is surely done deliberately. The characters are believable - especially the boys are very good. Shocking and honest portrayal of a young lad trying to escape from his beastly father.
