Middling pablum but touching in parts and worth seeing for Jean-Baptiste Maunier and the singing of Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc (mixed choir). Maunier, who sings very pleasantly though he's definitely not in the top rank of boy singers, was twelve and a half at the time of filming; he sang his last as a soloist a month past his fourteenth birthday, then retired, wishing to go out on a high note rather than wait until his voice began changing. Later he turned up again in the 2006 film of Le Grand Meaulnes.

A fine French film though relying on a predictable plotline. Jean-Baptiste Maunier is not only good looking but quite a good singer, too. He plays his part well as do the adult actors. Enchanting and moving. The film is set in 1949 so the scene where the boys are reading through Clement Mathieu's music sheets in the toilets and Mathieu comes in to retrieve them and then is accused of coming on to the boys in a sexual way would not have occurred at that time. Such matters weren't even thought about then.

The DVD extra showing how the film was made and interviewing the boys was almost as good as the film itself!

Populist, safe, conventional... Does nothing to provoke thought or challenge ideas. Cute boys, okay music, predictable story, decent acting. A good watch if you're not looking to have your mind blown.

I *REALLY* liked the music and thought this movie was great. As mentioned by others, it could have been a little more emotionally involved, but it was touching nonetheless. If you like boy choirs, you'll not be disappointed by this.
