Jack and the Beanstalk (2009)

Not very good but cute enough to be watchable.

Joshua (2007)

I wasn't expecting much. There are actually some interesting and unusual ideas being explored in this movie that you wouldn't expect from your typical "evil kid" thriller. But it's poorly executed.

Knowing (2009)

I've rarely felt such a roller-coster of emotions while watching a movie. Unfortunately I don't mean that as praise in the way it's often used in tacky reviews. There were elements of the story that I thought were quite interesting and could have made an excellent film. Unfortunately, I found myself getting angry at the characters (and the writer/director) for doing incredibly stupid things. When one of the characters we're supposed to care about gets killed near the end, I found myself actually cheering, because by that point the characters had done so many stupid things that I felt they truly deserved to die.

Aside from that, the movie suffers from some low-budget special effects, a fact that I would have easily overlooked if the writing and acting had not been so poor as well.

Mile Zero (2001)

Kind of hard to feel any sympathy for this borderline psychopath dad who kidnaps his own son. Which is of course not the problem - I watch and enjoy lots of films about unsympathetic character. But I got the impression the director wanted us to relate to him when all I could think was that he was a terrible person who deserved everything that was happening to him.

Mediocre acting throughout also doesn't help.

Miracle at St. Anna (2008)

Weird and long movie that tries to do so many things and fails at most of them. Boy's cute, though.

The Seeker: The Dark is Rising (2007)

Nothing you haven't seen at least a dozen times before, and done better. Kinda flat, unexciting, inconsequential.

The Sitter (2011)

Kinda disappointing. I think Jonah Hill can be pretty funny and, obviously, I also had high expectations for Max Records. But the movie wasn't that funny and Max's character could've used more depth. *SPOILERS* While I appreciate the positive portrayal of a young gay character, it was dealt with in a very superficial and unrealistic way. For the boy to go from total denial to acceptance in just a few minutes after a single conversation was pretty dumb. Missed opportunity.
