Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

Yeah, here I needn't say much. It is a flat story, but it is entertaining and funny, and the idea beneath is very witty! Good acting, nice dialogues and simply a great performance by Robin Williams.

The Mummy Returns (2001)

It was okay. I watched it in the cinema a few years ago and never again since then. Freddie Boath makes it worth watching I guess. It didn't really live up to part I, but if you like this kind of entertainment, you ought to give it a try.

The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter (1990)

I loved this one as a kid. I basically agree with the previous review. Jonathan Brandis was a genuine actor who had natural talent and personal charm. May he rest in peace.

Nuovo cinema Paradiso (1988)

Cinema Paradiso is a very simple movie with one particular theme that makes it special: The magic of the movies. The storyline follows the path of a famous Italian director and traces his career back to his early childhood days, when he spent countless hours with his adult friend Alfredo in the projection room of the little cinema in their village. The two of them grow quite close, and it is fair to say that Alfredo becomes a kind of real father for little Toto, whose natural father died in World War II. After a horrible incident that leaves Alfredo blind, Toto himself becomes the projectionist, a job he performs for many years.

The movie further extensively elaborates on Toto's first love and on many subtle themes, such as Alfredo fatherly guidance and Toto's time in the army. Throughout the proceedings of the story, the magic of movies plays an important part. The inspiration and impact on ordinary people in those early days of the cinema, the way people were emotionally stirred and how they participated actively with cheers, laughters and even tears, all these aspects are transformed into the movie in a way that is maybe a bit over-subscribed and occasionally a bit corny, but very authentic and with a marked nostalgic edge.

Cinema Paradiso is a very subtle and slow movie. It is a typical Italian movie in terms of pace and camera work. I was occasionally reminded of Once Upon A Time in America and Martin Scorsese's narrative style. It is a very nostalgic movie with lots of sad moments that make you aware of the passing of time. At the same it is the story of Toto and his relationship with Alfredo, who was more a father than a friend to him. It is maybe a bit too long, and some moments could have been made more interesting and more helpful for a quicker proceeding of storyline developments.

Over the Top (1987)

Over the Top was one of those movies I kind of enjoyed many years ago. The story is very simple again, as in most of Sly's movies. David Mendenhall delivers a good performance, I actually liked his character. The ultimate showdown is perfectly staged, you have to acknowledge that. Thus the dramatic aspect as well as the emotional burden lift the movie's quality to a certain extent and make it a solid 7 for me. There are definitely better father-son stories, but I think that this one lived up to its demand.

The Power Of One (1992)

I remember this one. It didn't leave that much of a lasting impression on me. The choir scene is to be watched out for indeed. The message is fine and clear-cut, mixed with a strong coming of age process and many very honest approaches to racial equality and dignity.

The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

Decent accomplishment, genuine portrayal of a real life story. One of the more watchable Will Smith movies.

Radio Flyer (1992)

A real heart-tugger. Joseph and Elijah are so young in this one. The story is adapted for children mainly. Now I'm maybe a bit too old for movies like this one. Still, I enjoyed it. Both kids show how good they are. The "Fisher"-story is very good, gives an inspiring edge to it.

The Ring (2002)

David Dorfman is awesome in both Ring movies, even more so in the second. The story is wonderfully scary and something you have to see. The basic concept behind it is very imaginative. I liked it. Still, it's not more than a horror movie, but a good one.

Good one! Fine cast, great acting, thrilling suspense, nice twists. Entertaining, but not too demanding and sophisticated. Mazzello, as always, shows how good he is.
