If you want a dark post-apocalyptic film, it doesn't get much darker than "The Road."

The 1st time I saw this movie, I didn't know the old man they share their dinner with was Robert Duvall, and it floored me when I read the ending credits! I love Kodi Smit McPhee, he's one of the best boy actors to come along in a long time! this movie was the 1st movie I ever saw him in, from that point i have followed his career! he is an amazing actor, his whole family is in the performing arts, His Dad is an actor, his Mum is, I believe a screen writer, or play write!

I think the musical score was perfect, it set a forboding tone to the film, This movie makes me wonder if this isn't what this world is destined to become!

A gripping film that tells an unsettling story of just what could happen if there was some terrible worldwide catastrophe. Grey and bleak, the heartrending portrayal of father and son trying to survive a lawless world was stamped on every frame. Kodi Smit-McPhee was outstanding as the boy thrown into this world while so young. The cannibals may have shocked some viewers but when you thought about it, that was a way to survive! A relentless film that had you always wondering how it would all end. As it happened, the ending was a mixture of sadness and hope for the future.

It was interesting to note that in the scene where father and son plunge into the lake by the waterfall, the man is starkers but the boy still wears shirt and shorts! Quite unrealistic, of course, but then what can film makers do when confronted by the taboo of showing a child's naked body?

From all the talk and reviews I knew I was in for a rough ride. But distressing as the film is, I was heartened by the genuine tenderness between the boy and his father. Kodi is beautiful and an incredible young actor. Viggo Mortensen was also impressive.

Now I just HAVE to see 'Let Me In.'
