As I feel like I might be the last person in the developed world not to either have seen this film or have read the novel, I am sure that this insight is not profound: nonetheless, the theme appears to be the superiority of a child's innocence to an adult's jadedness. Scout and her brother are able to avoid the traps of judging a book by its cover and avoid the curse of prejudice that the townspeople labor beneath. Granted, much of this attitude must have been fostered by kind, patient Atticus, a remarkable gentleman who manages to not get caught in the hypocrisy of being judgmental toward even those who would be judgmental. A bittersweet, sentimental film that stands the test of time.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10This classic Oscar winning movie is so great it almost eclipses the fact there are boy actors in it. Philip Alford, of course, is excellent as Jem who shares much screen time with Mary Badham as his tomboy sister, Scout. They are ably supported by the late John Megna who plays the little boy, Dill. I reckon the bogeyman, Boo Radley, wasn't that crazy when he knew he had to save nice Jem from being murdered. Great film all round.
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10A great movie! in a lot of ways, this movie captures the real essence of what life was like in America in the 1930's!
This movie was Robert Duvall's debut, and I thought he did well! I also agree that Atticus was probably Peck's best performance EVER! This movie is Definately a must see!
