The characters are too simplistic and sketchily drawn, so we never really care much about them. Also, there's very little dramatic tension. So although, for example, we learn early on that there are other people occasionally on the island, they never really come across as a threat to the two protagonists' cosy existence. The whole thing is almost like a television broadcast for schools on the changes your body is going through at puberty! Neither of the teenage actors is particularly charismatic. The scenery, however, is very beautiful.
My Movie Rating: 5 / 10'Blue Lagoon' should have continued solely with the two children which would've made a far more realistic film. It would seem that Glenn Kohan had enlightened parents who obviously wouldn't mind their son swimming in the nude. The older actors lived in a too idyllic situation with Brooke Shields looking as though she had a beauty parlour at hand somewhere on that island. A typical Hollywood effort at trying to depict, with total unrealism, two young people surviving under such circumstances.
My Movie Rating: 5 / 10I remember when this movie first hit theaters, A big contraversy over the nudity, in particular, the child nudity, it was almost band in American theaters by the board of standards and practices, which, of course, made audiences want to see it even more! because, Americans don't like to be told what they can't do!
The Director wanted a boy and a girl to play the preteen rolls who wouldn't have a problem with being completely naked for long periods of time around fully clothed people! so the Director found Glen and the Girl at a Nudist colony!according to the DVD extras. Brook Sheilds was only 15 when the movie was made, and Christopher Atkins was 18.
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10Good for visuals only, and maybe the fantasy of an idyllic situation. But the visuals were nice.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Can't imagine why.
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10I didn't particularly like this one, but the idea is definitely very interesting. The kind of growing up far off any cultural influences makes a good story. The acting was decent, but not outstanding. There could have been a more sophisticated transformation of the idea.
