Beautiful cinematography and an interesting storyline.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10This is Charles Laughton's only directorial credit and did he hit a home run. The performances are top-notch. The story take place in West Virginia on the Ohio river after the depression. You can easily imagine the cast as real people. Their acting is so realistic. Many towns in that area haven't changed much in the last 80 years. They still mine coal, brew moonshine and praise Jesus.
My Movie Rating: 10 / 10my favorite scene is where John and his Sister stop for the night in the barn, John is sitting in the doorway of the Hayloft, and in the distance you can see the Preacher ride slowly by on his Horse! Robert Mitchum was great as the Preacher! Billy was very watchable! I love this movie alot! I watch it every chance I get. I highly recommend this, not only as a boy movie, but also as a suspence, drama!
My Movie Rating: 10 / 10"Doesn't he ever sleep?"
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10This is one of my favorite films. Robert Mitchums role is legendary. And Billy Chapin is great in it as well. Some of the images are so beautiful, disturbing and surreal, like the mother at the bottom of the river with her throat slit and her hair flowing almost seductively in the water. Or the little girl singing as she flees down the river with her brother. It's a shame that this film flopped on it's initial release. If Charles Laughton would have made more movies, he probably could have rivaled Hitchcock.
My Movie Rating: 10 / 10Come what may, Night of the Hunter is a classic. Robert Mitchum's character portrayal defined a new category of the wicked, ambivalent villain. The boy, Billy Chapin, plays an important role in the movie, impelling the storyline and adding emotional depth and sincerity to the plot.
