Big Daddy (1999)
This movie is so sweet! The Sprouses are perfect in their role. Although the plot isn't overwhelming, still it's nice.
The adult protagonist adopts a little boy (played by the Sprouse twins) to impress a lady he wants for a girfriend. She, however, has given up on him, and he's stuck with a little fella that loves him to pieces.
When social services finds out that he was using someone else's name, they remove the boy, but he fights back to get the lad back.
Okay. So the plot isn't a masterpiece. The acting is really excellent, the characters very believable. Definitley a wonderful movie.

I really liked this movie. There is a lot of human drama. Master Sangster is not the central focus of the picture, but he plays a very important supporting role. There are some really funny situations with subtle humor.

The most important part of the movie is the emotion the boy feels when his father is so painfully absent in his life. But other than that, it's a pretty silly film. Having said that, I have to give it a real thumb's up for the Russian kitty.

This is a mixed movie. It tells a story, sort of. There are many substories, but they are even more difficult to identify. It doesn't flow smoothly. Some scenes seem not to be related to the rest of the movie.
But it does tell a story of love and friendship in the face of opposition. Despite the fragmentation and confusion, it achieves the goal. The acting is much better than the story cohesiveness. Character development is good. It also brings back fond memories from some few decades ago. Sigh.

10 / 10 Flash (1997)
This is a good movie. Fourteen year old Connor Strong (Lucas Black) works after school to save money to buy a horse from a family that has fallen on hard times. His father's ego gets in the way, though, and Connor has to stop working.
Dad's job has come to an end, and there is little meaningful work in the town. He takes a job on a ship, requiring him to be out of town for five months. Before he goes, though, he uses his sign-up bonus and buys Flash, the horse Connor wanted, for his son.
While Dad's gone, the money he deposited in the bank is seized for back payments on the mortgage. Grandma has to go to work (Connor's mother is deceased) in the textile mill. She has a heart attack and dies.
In order to buy a nice casket for his grandmother, Connor sells various items, and eventually, his best friend, Flash.
The buyer is the wealthy Mr. Rutherford, who has numerous horses and a son Tad (Shawn Toovey) who's a bit fearful of horses. (Toovey, by the way, gives a very respectable performance as supporting actor.) Ultimately Connor teaches Tad to ride in return for Mr. Rutherford's promise not to whip Flash. In competition, though, the Tad "only" takes second place. The father derides his son as a coward, because he wouldn't whip Flash and ride him to first place.
To prove he is a man, Tad takes his riding crop and whips the horse. Later the boy goes to apologize to Flash. Unfortunately, Flash is scared and kicks the boy's arm, breaking it. The boy's father determines to kill the horse.
Connor, who has been working in the stable for room and board, takes Flash and heads from Georgia (or is it Alabama?) to meet his father's ship in New York City. Setting out with only a few dollars in their collective pockets, Connor and Flash head up the Atlantic coast.
The movie is almost mediocre. Lucas Black, as Connor, takes what would otherwise be a humdrum story and rescues it from obscurity with his easy, natural presence, and his love for the horse. Black may or may not have been a horse person before this role, but there's no doubt the young actor grew to love his co-star.
The end of the story is touching and satisfying. Both Lucas Black and the Shawn Toovey show how much they have grown up as they stand with and against their fathers.
En toto, the movie is good. If you like horses, Lucas Black, or Shawn Toovey, you will want to see this story.

Beautiful story, beautiful scenery. The story develops slowly, but with the grandeur and the charm of the family it is not at all a heavy burden.
The six-year-old (approximately) boy (Ugna) steals the show with his antics and charm. The photographers apparently fell in love with him too, as he's in many scenes, and often the story is told from his perspective.

I know, it's a silly movie. The plot is kind of thin. But there are a few subplots (almost as thin). It also is replete with adorable photography of kids trying to get into shape to battle a vastly superior ball team.
It's not very credible, but it's cute.

Fun to watch. This movie is really more about the aunt and the dynamics of her odd relationship with her mother, the domineering matriarch of the family.
One of the best scenes in memory of boys anticpiating an ice cream sundae. The two lads get about 50% of the screen time, and perform well.
There are better movies, but this one is certainly worth viewing.

A misfit boy befriended by a misfit, yet loved adult man. Bill M. was a genius in the way he loved Chris M.'s character. What a lovely story!

I haven't seen the movie recently ... say like within the last 40 years, but I do recall seeing it. It is the first movie I remember making me cry. Now I don't recall why, but I remember that it made a real impression on me at the time.

Just saw this on television recently. I must get the DVD and see the alternate ending. What a touching movie, even in the televised setting. Another Osment victory. And Duval and Caine should get awards for supporting actors. Well done all the way around.
