The Butcher Boy (1997)
A sure masterpiece of some sort, but a painful one. Eamon Owens is brilliant, Alan Boyle is a heartbreaker. Something about the tone of the narration and the progression of events reminded me constantly of A CLOCKWORK ORANGE.
My Movie Rating:

The Butterfly Effect (2004)
Foul language and gratuitous violence lovingly brought out by the director. The director/writer commentary on the DVD is incredibly sleazy. The two sound like drunken college boys discussing a wild party.
It was a treat to see Logan Lerman - and John Patrick Amedori is an astonishingly convincing look-alike for Logan's character as a teenager.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Sometimes Tim Burton is just a bit too strange for me although I admit he has done some darkly delightful stuff. Johnny Depp is fine in his weird part; I have come to have great respect for him as a screen actor.
And yes, Freddy Highmore is indeed adorable.
My Movie Rating:

Charlie St. Cloud (2010)
An extremely touching premise, that of a unique relationship between older and younger brother, was almost totally ruined by the film's heart-throb emphasis on the older brother and his girlfriend. But that's just me in the new-age Disney era.
Unfortunately, the book has the same problem, although book and movie have some beautiful moments.
