Roseanne (1988-1997)

Mainly a vehicle for Roseanne Arnold's particular brand of "humour", but the rest of the cast do make their own mark, and the result is pretty good. Of course, seeing DJ grow up over the years was the best part :-)

Brilliant series which seems to be enjoyed by many adults as well as kids :-)

The Sandlot (1993)

Very cool coming of age movie. Certainly appeals to me, always being the last to be picked for football at playtime.

The Santa Clause (1994)

A gorgeous Christmas movie. Unfortunately the sequel was terrible, and has dissuaded me from watching the third.

I expected it to be a little more anarchic - it seemed to me a little too much like Sister Act 2....

Second Best (1994)

A true classic. Sometimes upsetting & disturbing, but always thought-provoking and heart warming. Chris Cleary-Miles is just superb.

It's just a crying shame I had to find out about this movie by accident.

One of those instances of the movie surpassing the fame of the novel.

Signs (2002)

Some people have said M. Night Shyamalan is a one-trick director - I'd say this - Sixth Sense was an inspired all-time classic, Unbreakable was mediocre, and with Signs, he's just lost the plot.

Good performances, especially from Rory Culkin and Mel Gibson, and the first part of the film was fairly reasonable. But the last 20 minutes were a bitter disappointment.

There again, would I have felt the same way had I not been expecting a revelatory-turn-it-on-its-head ending?

Simon Birch (1998)

Superb performances by both Ian Michael Smith and Joseph Mazzello. It's one of those movies which treads the fine line between being over-sentimental and touching, and I think in this movie, they have the balance about right.

The Sixth Sense (1999)

Widely regarded as a truly original movie. Bruce Willis is actually very good in it as well, proving he can act when he wants to, without having to wear a dirty vest.

If there is anything more amazing than Haley's debut (well, almost debut), it's that he's managed to escape the possible typecast of being 'the kid from the Sixth Sense'.

Sling Blade (1996)

Fantastic. Superbly written, and superbly acted. The relationship between Karl (Billy Bob Thornton) and Frank (Lucas Black) brought tears to my eyes.

Soccer Dog: The Movie (1999)

The plot summary and title didn't really inspire, and the watching was only slightly better. But the main thing I felt was that the writer had some very unusual ideas, somewhat outside the remit of a kids comedy movie.
