Billy Elliot (2000)

A fantastic film which must be seen. Jamie Bell makes a superb debut as a boy growing up in the north of England during the eighties' miner's strike who takes up ballet dancing, much to his father's initial chagrin.

Birth (2004)

Very slow paced film, but that's no bad thing - I really like the long, relatively static scenes that allow you time to absorb the film. A lot is left for interpretation as well.

I hope Cameron Bright continues to get good roles like this - his performance was superb.

Blank Check (1994)

Fantastic Disney comedy. It has all the ingredients of a moralistic family comedy, but for the most part manages to stay on the right side of "tweeness". Brian Bonsall is a major plus as well - it's a great pity he didn't have more roles like this one.

Bogus (1996)

General opinion seems to be bad about this movie. Maybe I'm just blinded because I'm a big fan of Haley, but I loved it :-)

The Borrowers (1997)

Although the addition of a young son to the Clock family (Tom Felton as Peagreen) was welcome :) it still doesnít forgive what is really a terrible film. Quite apart from being as far from Mary Nortonís books as it could possibly get, the set designers and props department seemed undecided about which period the film was being shot in. Also, I think the director got rather confused and was perhaps reading Gulliver's Travels towards the end...

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2008)

Very powerful. Fantastic acting by Asa Butterfield. A brilliant film, but one that I can only watch once - it got into my head and it was all I could think about for days afterwards. Whoever you are, make sure you have a big box of tissues ready when you watch it.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)

A fantastic adaptation of the book. Freddie Highmore was wonderful - he has a very natural talent, and Johnny Depp's performance has just the right amount of lunacy and sinister undertones.
