Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)

Didn't like it that much. A bit too surreal for my taste. Freddie Highmore is a real charmer though.

Le Château de ma mère (1990)

The sequel to My Father's Glory. The story itself is not as developed and interesting as in part one, as it mainly deals with the short cut the Pagnols use to reach their summer domicile. Still, it's the end that makes this sequel a very good movie. The end symbolizes the transitoriness of life and bliss. Nothing stays the same. Time goes by. We grow older. The magic of childhood diminishes. We lose loved ones. Our hearts break in two. Kids don't know such things. Life, as it proceeds, changes everything. And then, sometimes, we stop and look back, just as Marcel did at the very end, when he walked the path of his childhood, accompanied by tender shadows of the past. We look behind our shoulder and... what do we see? We see shadows of our own past, maybe we hear the laughter of young voices, so full of joy and energy, and maybe we wonder what has happened to the kid who used to laugh that way? Why don't we laugh that way today? Because this is one part of our life that's inevitably gone. That's what's so superbly symbolized by the last few shots. When I first saw this, I felt tears in my eyes. This is an eternal story of how fading life is, and therewith this movie has achieved its place in my heart.

Les choristes (2004)

Yeah, a fine movie. The boys are wonderful as they turn into singers. I just thought that there could have been stronger emotional implications, something more pervasive. I like it though.

The Cider House Rules (1999)

Yeah, nice movie indeed. It has a lot to it. Growing up and taking responsibility. Outstanding are Erik Per Sullivan as the ill kid and Kieran Culkin. Nothing too special though.

La cité des enfants perdus (1995)

Complete trash. Bizarre, totally weird and occasionally nothing but disgusting.

The Client (1994)

Yeah, good one. I enjoyed Brad Renfro's performance, he's doing a tremendously fine job in here. The characters are wonderfully cast. The story is thrilling and carried by emotionally exposing sequences that add a sentimental edge to the movie which puts it above the average thriller.

Cloak & Dagger (1984)

Not really my kind of entertainment. I did not really like the movie, Henry Thomas showed too little emotions and the whole story was just too surreal for me.

Cold Creek Manor (2003)

I expected a lot and liked the beginning of the movie, yet the ending was so predictable that my overall impression decayed. Ryan Wilson was one of the reasons why I watched it. He did a good job, but I expected a bit more of him as well. Standard thriller with a good premise that was never fulfilled. Real pity.

Collateral Damage (2002)

An average action movie. I watched it in the cinema but it didn't leave a lasting impression. I didn't even remember the parts of the boys and thus hadn't expected this movie being presented here at all.

La corsa dell'innocente (1992)

The movie's background story is good, but I wasn't entirely satisfied with the pace and storyline developments. The visuals were great anyway, the close-ups of the boy as well as the scary scenes (good use of twilight and shadows). I found I'm Not Scared a better movie dealing with the kidnappings in Italy, though this one seems a bit more realistic.

The Cowboys (1972)

A wonderful western with a simple but strong story. I saw this one a long time ago. I remember the sequence when the boys got drunk around the campfire, when some (was it one or more?) died in a stampede and when The Duke was shot to death. The final scene is very strong, when the boys have the graveyard with the tombstone erected for their chief. Wonderful accomplishment.

The Cure (1995)

Wonderful story about true friendship. One of my all-time favorites. Mazzello and Renfro do a superb job, the interaction between them is emotional and moving. A heart-rending story that almost made me cry. That's how life and friendship ought to be. Never give up.

D2: The Mighty Ducks (1994)

I can hardly distinguish between parts 1-3, they were all rather similar. There's nothing particularly new and imaginative to the sequels, so nothings you should bother too much unless you're a hockey freak.

Always the same. This one is slightly better than part two, for the characters are more credibly portrayed and grown up.

Dante's Peak (1997)

Nice movie, but dealing with themes commonly known. There's nothing special to it. Introduction - disaster - hero rescues his family. Fairly simple pattern, but that's what this movie is basically about.
