Firehouse Dog (2006)

Charming, though nothing all that special. See it for Josh Hutcherson, an exceptionally gifted child actor, and his canine pal, played by four different dogs.

Mediocre but fun.

Fisherman's Wharf (1939)

Plot a little like that of Peck's Bad Boy, which is a better film, the 1934 version at least. This however is not bad, featuring as it does Bobby Breen's fine singing and a good performance from secondary-child-roles veteran Tommy Bupp.

Five Children and It (2004)

Surprisingly, not bad, though the 1991 BBC mini-series is much more faithful to the book.

Five Children and It (1991)

The BBC adapts one of the greatest of children's books. The Wouldbegoods may be the best thing E. Nesbit ever wrote but it is completely unsuited to screen adaptation; Five Children... by contrast is quite well suited. 'Gypsy' and 'Red Indian' episodes discreetly dropped, wing coda added, uncle does not appear and for some reason Cyril, not Robert, is the hero of the beseiged-castle episode. Otherwise faithful to the book. Delightful!

Das Fliegende Klassenzimmer (2003)

Surprisingly, a lovely film, set among the Thomaner, Bach's own choirboys. Hans Broich-Wuttke and Hauke Diekamp are the standouts for me.

Fluke (1995)

Somewhat similar plot to that of Jack Frost, but much darker. Likewise, not a great movie, and if you're looking for a simple, charming boy-and-his-dog story you're in for a bit of an unpleasant shock. But Max Pomeranc is a treat to watch, as always!

Great to see Maxence Perrin given a more substantial role than the stock-cute-kid one he had in Les Choristes.
