Whole New Thing (2005)

The ultimate teacher-crush movie is Mädchen in Uniform (1931, banned by the Nazis), closely followed by La robe du soir. Paradise: Hope and Claire's Knee are both excellent treatments of minor variations on the theme in which the object of affection is not a teacher but close enough. This isn't as good as those, but it's nicely done, with good acting from Aaron Webber and some original and insightful moments.

Wild Boys of the Road (1933)

Excellent. Pre-Code and don't we know it! Probably the most realistic Depression film, perhaps partly because the director, William Wellman, had a knockabout boyhood himself. After having been a fighter pilot with the French Foreign Legion during the First World War he won the first-ever Academy Award for Best Picture with Wings, a corking First World War aviation epic/buddy film/sentimental romance -- not to be confused with Larisa Shepitko's brilliant film of the same name about a former Second World War Russian fighter pilot become an obscure headmistress.

Wild Tigers I Have Known (2006)

Unusual and not at all bad, but Archer's short film Bobbycrush is basically this in condensed form, and is a better film for it. I recommend the short version over the long version.

Die Wilden Kerle 2 (2005)

At this point the series starts getting seriously zany. It can't touch Zazie dans le Métro but does work as an interesting entry in the Zany Cinema book. The lead, Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht, is perhaps not the most versatile of youthful actors, tending to fall back on a stern frown, but it suits his character and his screen presence allows him to carry it off with aplomb.

And even zanier. It's great to watch the boys growing up over the course of the series.

A simple, rousing goodies-and-baddies, winners-and-losers kids' sports tale.

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971)

A fine and very enjoyable adaptation. I have a soft spot for it and for Peter Ostrum, who decided after the shoot was finished not to go on acting in movies. He's now a large animal vet.

Plot somewhat reminiscent of the must-watch Ciencias naturales. That's a better film but this is surprisingly good.
