The Prince and the Pauper (2007)

I guess it was inevitable for the Sprice to act in a Prince-and-Pauper storyline. Of course it makes a complete wreck of Twain's wonderful novel, but if you liked Suite Life it could reward a look.

Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1989)

Lumping Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader into one block was a bit of a strange decision, as was leaving out The Magician's Nephew, The Horse and His Boy and The Last Battle. This I think is the weakest of the BBC's Narnia films, but it's still solid and likeable.

Proibito rubare (1948)

The first feature film by Luigi Comencini of Incompreso and Voltati Eugenio. Intended by the studio as an Italian answer to Boys Town, but Comencini made something more neorealistic than the studio wanted. It's not quite in the same league as De Sica's Umberto D., Shoeshine and The Bicycle Thieves or as Bresson's Diary of a Country Priest, Mouchette and Pickpocket (the first two based on novels by Georges Bernanos, the latter loosely inspired by Crime and Punishment) but it's really surprisingly good, with most of the boys played by genuine Naples street urchins.

Pssst! Hammerman's After You! (1974)

Based on the novel The 18th Emergency by popular author Betsy Byars (The Midnight Fox, Summer of the Swans, The Pinballs, The Cybil War etc.).

Pünktchen und Anton (1999)

Modernised adaptation of the book, not always entirely successful, but featuring a great performance from Max Felder.

Pure (2002)

Not up to say Heaven Knows What or Baldvin Z's Let Me Fall, but pretty good: a workmanlike telling of a drug-addiction story from an unusual angle. Helped along considerably by Harry Eden's wonderful performance. Eden has said he prefers challenging acting roles: well, he had one here, and he more than met the challenge.

The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

Will Smith vehicle, not at all bad, but nothing he's done since (and yes, that definitely includes the Men in Black series!) has been able to touch The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Quando sei nato non puoi più nasconderti (2005)

Excellent film from the director of The Best of Youth, a monumental and engrossing epic about a family's experiences in late-twentieth-century Italy that merits comparison to Mohammed Malas's Dreams of the City. Wonderful acting from Matteo Gadola.

Les quatre cents coups (1959)

This masterpiece is the first of a series of films starring Jean-Pierre Léaud as Antoine Doinel. The next, Antoine et Colette, a medium-length film in which our hero suffers from unrequited love, is very good, but after that they drop off in quality.
