A Estrela Mais Brilhante (2011)
The plot is sentimental and unoriginal but Miguel Mestre's grave, understated performance goes some way towards redeeming the piece.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Everything That Rises (1998)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Eye of the Devil (1966)
Robert Duncan is great here. Stars Deborah Kerr and appears to be an attempt to follow up The Innocents, but clunks along in a very obvious fashion with fairly weak cinematography. David Hemmings, who sang for Benjamin Britten in the premiere of The Turn of the Screw ('Hemmings the Menace Sings Opera in Venice') has an important secondary role. At the time this was made James George Frazer's The Golden Bough, with its discussion of the 'sacred king', was still widely known. Gratuitous scene where David Niven whips Sharon Tate.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Far from Home: The Adventures of Yellow Dog (1995)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Firehouse Dog (2006)
Charming, though nothing all that special. See it for Josh Hutcherson, an exceptionally gifted child actor, and his canine pal, played by four different dogs.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Fisherman's Wharf (1939)
A curious mishmash: stereotyping of Italians slapped on ludicrously thick, interventions from a pet seal named Julius -- the animal actor is credited as 'Slicker, the seal' --, a nice scene where Bobby Breen sings with a proper robed boys' choir for once, several fine renditions of popular songs in Italian, and lots of scenes where secondary-child-roles veteran Tommy Bupp exercises his talent for playing smug and supercilious boys.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Five Children and It (2004)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Flipped (2010)
Interesting conceit, overly cutesy execution.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home (1995)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Free Willy 3: The Rescue (1997)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Fünf Freunde 2 (2013)
Enjoyable enough. George is too girlish, though.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Fünf Freunde 3 (2014)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Gabriel & Me (2001)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Geppetto (2000)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Get Santa (2014)
Charming and quite well made.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10The Ghost of Thomas Kempe (1978)
Somewhat disappointing adaptation of a wonderful book.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Ghosts of Mississippi (1996)
Determinedly middle-of-the-road treatment. See Mudbound and the 1934 version of Imitation of Life instead.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Los girasoles ciegos (2008)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10The Golden Compass (2007)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10A Good Year (2006)
