10 / 10 In my view Tarkovsky's best after Andrei Rublev. If Soviet depictions of the Second World War are of interest, also take a look at at The Ballad of a Soldier, The Cranes are Flying and Commissar, each of which is excellent in its own way.

Nikolay Burlyaev (as Ivan) was excellent!
The beauty of the film was stunning!
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10 The opening scenes are beautifully shot with Nicolai Burlyayev looking great in his shorts and sun filled surroundings. After that the film drags a little and is only too representative of an innocent child suffering from the banal adult war propaganda and wanting to kill Germans. Good acting from Nicolai.
