Synopsis

When Jakob Lechner returns home from University he finds that his father has arranged a marriage for him with the mayor's daughter. But when Jakob meets the dairymaid Liesl, he falls in love with the blond, open-minded girl. After the death of her father, Liesl and her little brother Hansl was taken in by Jakob's father to help on the farm. When his father forbids marriage to Liesl, Jakob goes to town to build his own life. Liesl is crying her eyes out. Hansl is so sad about this that he can no longer even play on his ocarina. He goes into town to look for Jakob and tell him about Liesl's grief. Although Hansl comes back to the farm alone, a secret plot eventually leads to a happy wedding taking place on the Lechner farm and Hansl can yodel and make music again.
