My Dog Rusty
(1948)
Country: USA
Synopsis
Hugh Mitchell, who is campaigning for Mayor of Lawtonville, is having trouble with his son Danny, who persists in telling lies - each told for a good purpose but found out at the worst possible time. In order to prove he can handle responsibility, Danny takes a job assisting the new doctor, Antonia Cordell, in determining the cause of an outbreak of illness in the community. An accident in the lab, caused by Rusty and covered up by Danny, has serious consequences, resulting in a panic that intrudes on Danny's father's campaign for mayor. When the truth comes out and Danny realises the damage he has caused, he feels he has no choice but to leave home; but Rusty won't let the boy run away that easily, and follows him.
