Synopsis
Suleiman, a 12-year old boy who lives with his poor family near Damascus along with many other families displaced from the Golan Heights, decides to sell tissues to help his father fulfil his dream of owning his very own Suzuki pick-up truck. The boy's chance meeting with a local girl whose father has been imprisoned for drawing satirical sketches leads Suleiman's family to make an important decision about their future.
Notes
- Written and directed by the Syrian filmmaker Mohammad Malas (b. 1945). Malas studied filmmaking at Moscow's famous Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), during which time he directed many short films. His first feature movie was the autobiographical coming-of-age film "Ahlam al-Madina" ("Dreams of the City", 1984), which garnered accolades at film festivals in Berlin, Tunis and Valencia, and won international recognition for Malas.
