Synopsis

The Slovenian town of Piran on the Adriatic coast in the early 60s: a city of large families, neighbourhood love affairs, jealousy, solidarity, merry wives exchanging gossip, and boys tearing through the streets and alleyways clad in nothing but swim trunks all summer long. Photographer Pino Vrabec finds that a photo he took of his kid brother Karli has won a newspaper competition, and decides to buy a car with the anticipated prize money. Unfortunately, the only thing he receives from the newspaper is a certificate commending his achievement. Being subject to the ridicule of their neighbours, his family decide to buy a car anyway, and are persuaded to purchase a battered, second hand Buick - which turns out to be far more trouble than they expected.
