Synopsis
A spoiled little rich boy (Jonathan Kahn) learns not to be so self-centred after he falls overboard in the middle of the ocean and is picked up by a crusty old sea captain.
Notes
- Based on the 1897 novel of the same name by English writer, poet, and novelist Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936). The novel's title derived from the ballad "Mary Ambree" (Mary Ambree being a legendary heroine who fought against the Spanish in the 1584 siege of Ghent - or 'Gaunt' as it was known in English), which begins "When captains courageous, whom death could not daunt/Did march to the siege of the city of Gaunt/They mustered their soldiers by two and by three/And the foremost in battle was Mary Ambree."
- To date, there have been three screen adaptations of Kipling's novel, of which this TV movie is the second. The first adaptation was the theatrical release Captains Courageous (1937), with Freddie Bartholomew as Harvey Cheyne, and the third was the TV movie Captains Courageous (1996), which featured Kenny Vadas in the role of Harvey Cheyne.
