Synopsis
Charlie Tynan, a 40-year-old Irish playwright living in New York, returns to Ireland for the funeral of his foster father (his 'Da'). However Da - in typical Irish style - cannot bear to miss his own funeral; so, despite being reminded by Charlie that he is dead, Da sticks around. The action shifts from present reality to past and back again, as Charlie witnesses the characters from his earlier life - including himself as a youth and as a young boy (Hugh O'Conor) - resurrected before his eyes.
Notes
- The screenplay for this film was written by Irish playwright and journalist Hugh Leonard (1926-2009), who adapted it from his 1973 play of the same name, with additional material from his 1979 autobiography "Home Before Night".
