Synopsis

School has nothing to offer 10-year-old Gopal (Tarashankar Mishra), an imaginative and inquisitive village boy. Though he writes poetry, his schoolteacher doesn't believe his poems are really composed by him! Finding adult society unsympathetic, he escapes to the forest to watch the animals and find his own answers to life's big questions.

Based on a short story by the Indian author Mohapatra Nilamani Sahoo (1926-2016)
Winner of the 1993 National Film Award for Best Children's Film. (The National Film Awards, established in 1954, are presented annually by the Directorate of Film Festivals, the organisation set up by the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.) The film also won the International Jury's Critic Award at the Udaipur International Film Festival and the Best Asian Film award at the Osaka International Film Festival.
