Doctor Dolittle
(1967)
Country: USA
Genre: Adventure, Family, Fantasy, Musical
Synopsis
Dr. John Dolittle (Rex Harrison) lives in a small English village where he specializes in caring for, and verbally communicating with, animals. When Dr. Dolittle is unjustly sent to an insane asylum for freeing a lovesick seal from captivity, his animals liberate him, and, joined by his human companions - Matthew Mugg (Anthony Newley), Tommy Stubbins (William Dix), and Emma Fairfax (Samantha Eggar) - they set out in a boat to find the elusive Great Pink Sea Snail.
Notes
- Adapted from a series of novels by Hugh Lofting, the film primarily combines the stories of three of the books: "The Story of Doctor Dolittle" (1920), "The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle" (1922), and "Doctor Dolittle's Circus" (1924).

Pleasant enough adaptation of the lovely books.
My Movie Rating:

After revealing what an exceptionally talented young actor he was in "The Nanny", it's a pity that William Dix was reduced to a fairly two-dimensional role in this dull, overlong, poorly paced, great big turkey of a film.

This movie beats the most recent Doctor Dolittle series by a mile (or make it several). What makes this movie even better is William Dix who was outstanding in this movie. (Of course I am somewhat prejudiced as he is great in all his films.)
