Drama about the intolerably hard life of a family of four, the only inhabitants of a very small Japanese island in the Setonaikai archipelago. Several times a day they row over to the neighboring island to fetch water for their miserable fields.

8 / 10 I really liked this movie. Hardly any dialogue we are allowed to spend some time with this family planting their crops on this isolated island that is by no means flat--nothing but a very steep hill. I am awed as they carried their water buckets balanced on their shoulders as they make their way up this treacherous slope and not a drop of water gets spilled. Their kids were also quite attractive doing their part of the daily farming.
