Saga

The books are great! This movie, more OK-ish. The beginning is not encouraging: Tom is seen actually swindling an adult, which doesn't happen in the books, and next there's a lost-in-a-cave incident that owes too much to Tom Sawyer. However, things then pick up a bit, and we get some solid, involving vignettes featuring charming boys in knickerbockers. But there's not enough emphasis on Tom's genuinely scheming, wheeling-and-dealing nature, and his character arc feels sentimentalised and a bit forced.
