Synopsis
Four young friends perform a heroic act - and are changed forever by the uncanny powers they gain in return. Years later, on a hunting trip in the Maine woods, they are overtaken by a vicious storm in which something much more ominous moves. Challenged to stop an alien force, the friends must first prevent the slaughter of innocent civilians by a military vigilante, then overcome a threat to the bond between them.

My Movie Rating: 1 / 10 Having read the book, they sure could have used more flashbacks to develop the touching relationship between the boys and Duddits - and scrapped that silly ending. They needed more time, so I have to agree this shouldn't have been done as a cinema feature. Even as chopped as it stands it runs 2-1/4 hours. Reece Thompson is a delight, even though he is just the opposite in appearance to young Beaver as I envisioned him.
(In the book, I love Duddits's mom's assessment of the four boys who took the time to be her son's friends - "Angels with kind hearts and dirty mouths.")
