Biography

Born Paul Critchlow, in 1964, young Paul decided to adopt the surname Critchley when he began acting. His first role was in a BBC adaptation of "Beau Geste" in 1982. This means that technically he was scarcely ever a 'boy' actor at all. However, he was preternaturally young-looking, with a voice that doesn't seem to have broken (or at least not by very much), so his inclusion on this database is warranted. Certainly, he could easily pass for 13 when he played Kit in the Yorkshire Television production of the classic "Sorrell and Son" in 1984. Besides his television credits, he frequently appeared in touring musicals such as "The Rocky Horror Show", "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Hair", and was also a popular pantomime performer in the 1980s, regularly appearing as an Ugly Sister in "Cinderella", as well as enjoying panto villain roles such as Fleshcreep and the Spirit of the Mirror. He died in 2013, aged just 49.
