Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974)

Sorry, it was boring.

American Gothic (2016)

By-the-numbers murder mystery. One dimensional characters. Bland but inoffensive. Not engaging enough for me to stick with it beyond the pilot, but fans of Gabriel Bateman might be interested as he is a main character and in every episode.

American Housewife (2016-????)

A bit formulaic, but a decent enough sitcom that provides a few good laughs each episode and has an appealing star in Daniel, whose character works to adopt the culture and customs of the upper middle class.

Un ange à la mer (2009)

Emotionally powerful and sometimes difficult to watch ... Martin Nessen is great in the lead role

O Ano em Que Meus Pais Saíram de Férias (2006)

I agree with the other reviews. This is a well made film authentically from the perspective of the boy protagonist. Despite the backdrop of the dictatorship, there are some funny moments as well.

Au Pair, Kansas (2011)

Starts badly, but gets better. Worth a rental but maybe not worth purchasing. It's on Amazon video as "The Soccer Nanny."

I really enjoyed the first half, the second half was alright but got a bit long in the tooth.

El Bola (2000)

Incredible film... hard to believe that the two lead boys had little or no prior acting experience.

Breakfast with Scot (2007)

Not a cinematic masterpiece but a decent watch. It was nice to see a film about a gay couple raising a child and I liked how Scot helped the former hockey player Eric combat his internalized homophobia.

Burning Secret (1988)

This is an expertly made film. The costumes and scenery are exquisite and really transport you back to the post-WW1 period. David Eberts will win his way into your heart with his good looks and high pitched voice. The characters are more complicated than they might seem on the surface. The ambiguities in the relationships between the main characters, particularly the boy and the man are interesting. There is one scene that is a little over the top and too convenient from the narrative perspective but ultimately leads to a satisfying resolution. A great winter film.

The Champ (1979)

It was great to see Ricky's range. He can pull off dramatic and comic scenes with equal talent. Faye Dunaway was also excellent.

La Classe de neige (1998)

Disturbingly emotional portrait of adolescent anxiety for a boy dealing with his burgeoning sexuality. Nicolas' unstated but clear attraction for the class 'wiseguy' who takes him under his wing leads to an unraveling of the distinction between truth and falsehood. Ends a little abruptly, I would've preferred more resolution.
