Voor een verloren soldaat (1992)

Well worth watching, but - maybe it's just me but I didn't really get a sense of the development of an intimate relation between the boy and the soldier.

Vozvrashcheniye (2003)

Time to eat some crow. I watched this film again in relaxed circumstances, without my preconceptions dictating its unfolding. It is a beautifully and carefully made film. It doesn't matter where the father came from or what he is up to. In life, young boys are often in situations where parents actions remain mysterious. This film is gripping on its own terms and aesthetically consistent.

On first viewing, I missed the detail of the photo the boys find at the very end. Heh, I'm not going to tell.

Vsichni moji blízcí (1999)

My intro to Brano Holicek. Through much of the film I was wondering who that talented and charming boy with the great smile was!

Whiskers (1997)

Darn it, this was a really cute idea for a boy movie. With a better script and less slapstick it could have been a really good one. Michael Caloz brightens it up considerably.

Sweet, funny & touching, I thought. Joseph Cross is enchanting. (but its not really the way I remember Catholic grade school!)

Malcolm Stumpf gives a sweet and touching portrayal of a boy in a familiar dilemma. Heartbreaking at times.
