Les amitiés particulières (1964)

What a beautiful performance by Didier and what a heartbreaker of a film.

I finally found a crude copy of this film that I knew someone had sent me years ago. It is broken down into 17 separate clips! I would give a lot to find a really fine copy.

The Awakening (2011)

Oh, how I love fine movies in this spooky mode, especially those with a strong dose of emotion. This one belongs right up there with The Others, Devil's Backbone, The Orphanage, Dorm. Isaac has a very moving scene toward the end and my eyes were leaking.

The Browning Version (1994)

Ben Silverstone's angel beauty and sensitive acting just blew me away. Albert Finney is just superb. I just have to second all of Sir Jacob's remarks.

Les choristes (2004)

Beautiful. Jean-Baptiste Maunier has a face and singing voice that are unforgettable.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

A real one-of-a-kind film! The obsession with the mountain 'shape' is a brilliantly worked out plot element. Cary Guffey is very cute, especially when he says 'goodbye' at the end. *sniff*

Dare mo shiranai (2004)

"Emotionally gripping and a keen sense of truth."

And now I own the DVD and watched it a second time. It is more quietly powerful and intimate and moving than that hasty comment above conveys. I love it. As the film was made chronologically over a year, we see Yuya enter the first stages of puberty toward the end of the film. His voice cracks and deepens and his sister teases him about it:"Your voice sounds so weird." Seeing this talented and immensely appealing boy actor enter the very earliest stages of manhood before your eyes had a sweetness about it that I cannot express.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)

Billy Gray and I were the same age when I saw the film. My buddy :) I was spellbound then and am still impressed by the movie. Probably the first intelligent sci-fi film. Drew Pearson, a famous newscaster of the time, reads the news on TV wearing his hat! Seemed ok at the time, is hilarious now :)

Dear Frankie (2004)

Yes I have to agree it is a beautiful movie and I did fall in love with the boy character. There are many charming boy actors but this boy is pure dynamite in his very quiet way.

An entrancing and beautiful fantasy starring an entrancing and beautiful boy. Just delightful.

En tu ausencia (2008)

Gonzalo is breathtaking and heartbreaking in his character and looks, and supremely natural in his acting. I suffered with him at the ending.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011)

I was very impressed and moved by Thomas Horn's acting. He really inhabits the character of a troubled and grieving boy.

I made the mistake of checking comments at Imdb. I have to stop doing that. They are, on the whole, sickening.

Great Expectations (1946)

One of my all-time favorites. I have never seen another movie which so closely captures the tone and flavor of Dickens' story and characters.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)

Harry has lost much of his frail sweetness. Dan is a more confident actor and Harry is much more in charge of things. Still a pleasure to see these kids work together in a film that to me is almost as delightful as the first, and even more involving.
