Abel, twój brat (1970)
How could this movie remain hidden for such a long time?
Adeus, Pai (1996)
Just the sort of film I like. Good script, uncomplicated story, great acting, humour, good looking kids: it is all there. José Afonso Pimentel was convincing in his role.
My Movie Rating:Agostino (1962)
Paolo Colombo as Agostino in a splendid film by Mauro Bolognini. Ingrid Thulin plays the mother in an almost erotic fashion, reminiscent of Maj Zetterling's 'Nattlek' which by the way was filmed four years later!
My Movie Rating:Les Allumettes suédoises (1995)
Apparently a tv-series that is hard to obtain. A recent revival of an ancient thread in the forum made me curious. Amazingly, I was successful in my first try to get it. Amazon.fr had it in stock. The distributors are Koba Films, who have a wealth of other French tv-productions in their programme.
Les allumettes suédoises is based on Robert Sabatier's novel with the same title. Director Jacques Ertaud and a fantastic cast forged the story into an evergreen. The boy actors are excellent. Naël Marandin's play is worth an Academy Award.
Billy Elliot (2000)
Captain Abu Raed (2007)
My Movie Rating:Cartouches gauloises (2007)
One of the best movies I have seen lately.
Le Chiavi di casa (2004)
La clé des champs (2011)
My Movie Rating:Dear Frankie (2004)
Film art of the highest level.
Detstvo Gorkogo (1938)
My Movie Rating:The Devil's Playground (1976)
All so very recognizable. It still brings tears to my eyes.
La Discesa di Aclà a Floristella (1992)
So near to reality, even in this day and age. Children have been exploited for ages. The plight of the parents is obvious, but how can 500 lira help them? The clergy shows sympathy, but they obviously have a secret agenda.
Aclá, the hero in this film is brutally abused. We don't know whether he escaped te sulphur mines at long last, although we hope he did succeed. This all happened around 1930. Let us pray that children all over the world will never have to endure what Aclá had to experience.
Edges of the Lord (2001)
In a casting crew I would probably not have cast my vote on Joel Haley Osment. Having seen a number of his films, I must agree that he is really the right choice. In 'The Edges of the Lord' he plays the central role so convincingly, that he becomes the darling of many film lovers. A very dramatic film. It will probably recur in my dreams many times.
En tu ausencia (2008)
I seldom rate a movie this high. This film, however, deserves a 10.
Eres mi héroe (2003)
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011)
My Movie Rating:Familjehemligheter (2001)
A well-constructed piece of art. Very enjoyable!
My Movie Rating:La Gloire de mon père (1990)
A really nice picture of a holiday in early 20th century Provence.
Le Grand chemin (1987)
