Eye of the Devil (1966)

Robert Duncan is great here. Stars Deborah Kerr and appears to be an attempt to follow up The Innocents, but clunks along in a very obvious fashion with fairly weak cinematography. David Hemmings, who sang for Benjamin Britten in the premiere of The Turn of the Screw ('Hemmings the Menace Sings Opera in Venice') has an important secondary role. At the time this was made James George Frazer's The Golden Bough, with its discussion of the 'sacred king', was still widely known. Gratuitous scene where David Niven whips Sharon Tate.

The Famous Five (1978-1979)

Keep an eye out for the guest appearance by Rupert Graves, who went on to an important adult acting career.

The Famous Five (1995-1997)

A fun romp, just as the books are, and set in the original time period, unlike the 1970s version where the androgynous clothes and hair rather obscured the hugely popular George's determined boyishness.

Fanny och Alexander (1982)

In my view Ingmar Bergman's greatest films, which means some of the greatest films ever made, are the medieval dramas The Seventh Seal and The Virgin Spring; the 'Silence of God trilogy': Through a Glass Darkly, Winter Light and The Silence; Wild Strawberries; and this one.
