Synopsis
It is a sunny day when young Thomas sets out for school. But instead of going to the school, he strolls through Berlin's streets, enjoying his freedom to wander the city. When he discovers a house fire he alerts the fire brigade, who save two small children. However, when the firemen want to take down his name, he runs off, because he doesn't want to be exposed as a truant. The next day at school, the unknown boy who alerted the fire department is praised - his running away being interpreted as modesty - but Thomas is silent, as he has claimed to have had toothache as an excuse for his absence the previous day. The fire department, however, is determined to locate him in order to honor their brave hero!
