Synopsis
The story of David Copperfield, from his boyhood to his becoming a famous and successful author. After his widowed mother marries the tyrannical Edward Murdstone, young David Copperfield (Max Dolbey) finds that his hitherto idyllic childhood comes to a swift end. When his mother dies, his stepfather sends him to London to work in a soul-crushing job. But when his kindly London landlord Wilkins Micawber, having been imprisoned for debt, is released through the intervention of a relation on condition that he quit London altogether, David finds himself friendless in the capital, so he walks the 76 odd miles from London to Dover, hoping to find shelter with his eccentric great-aunt Betsey Trotwood...

7 / 10 Good, solid adaptation of Dickens' novel, with some fine performances - in particular Frank McCusker is a gorgeously creepy Uriah Heep, Anthony Andrews a sinister Edward Murdstone, and Max Dolbey in the first half is an immensely likeable Young David Copperfield.
