Let 'er Go, Gallegher
(1928)

AKA: Gallegher

Country: USA

Genre: Drama

IMDb

Synopsis

Orphaned 12-year-old newsboy Johnny Gallegher, who dreams of being a detective like Sherlock Holmes, lives with his dog Watson in an old automobile in a junkyard. One day, after witnessing by chance the brutal murder of a man by the notorious 'Four Fingered Dan', Gallegher tells his friend Callahan, a reporter, what he's seen, which gives the latter the scoop of his life. However, the paper runs a picture of Gallegher on the front page, so that Four Fingered Dan now knows the identity of the only witness to his crime! Recognising Dan again at a train station, Gallegher decides to follow him (the kid clearly has a death wish), only to be caught and recognised by Dan - who is obviously planning on murdering him. Can Callahan find the boy and save him in the nick of time?

Notes

  • Based on the 1891 story "Gallegher" by the American author and journalist Richard Harding Davis (1864-1916), the studio bought up the screen rights to the story especially as a starring vehicle for Junior Coghlan.
