Synopsis
In the summer of 1939 13-year-old Karl arrives on a small island in the Gulf of Finland. A strict lighthouse master teaches his son Gustaf and Karl school subjects as well as seafaring. Karl hopes to become a lighthouse keeper while Gustaf's only aim is to get away from the island at any cost. The boys quickly become friends but as his father begins to favour Karl, Gustaf's attitude is irrevocably changed.
