Synopsis
When farm owner Bart Williams is severely injured falling from a horse, he has to be taken to the nearest town for medical treatment, accompanied by his wife Frances, leaving their 12-year-old son Louw Williams (Jason Roberts) to look after the farm by himself for a few days whilst his parents are away. He finds the task a greater struggle than he anticipated, not least because the livestock are being attacked and killed by some sort of wild beast.
Notes
- For his role in 'Claws', Roberts was nominated for an Artes Award (the South African equivalent of an Emmy), in the category "Best Performance in a Dramatic Work".

I've read a lot of unfavourable reviews of this film online, but so far as I'm concerned they're all wrong. Perhaps the problem is that this film is advertised as though it's a 'horror' movie (it isn't), when in fact it is a fine coming-of-age drama about a boy learning to overcome his fears and justify his father's trust in him. Jason Roberts is completely convincing in the lead role.
