Synopsis
In an effort to provide for their widowed mother and younger sister, 14 year old Basilio and his younger brother Bernardino unearth the harsh and unjust world of silver mining in the mountains of Bolivia. Betraying their Catholic upbringing, the boys entrust their fate underground in Tio, the Devil, who they believe protects and commands their lives, almost like a surrogate father figure. Working anywhere from 12 to 24 hour shifts, the brothers struggle to sustain their family?s expenses, especially for school - a promising escape from the short-lived life of a miner.
