Synopsis

Matt Hammond (Ed Devereaux) is the head ranger at Waratah National Park, where he lives with his two sons, Sonny (Gary Pankhurst) and Matt (Ken James), as well as flight ranger Jerry King (Tony Bonner) and Clancy (Liza Goddard), a music student who's staying with the Hammonds whilst her father is away. With the help of Skippy, Sonny's preternaturally smart kangaroo (played by at least nine different roos), they protect the park and fight various crooks.

Notes

  • The series comprised 91 half-hour episodes.
  • The series was heavily exported, as a result of which it became well-known throughout the world. It was transmitted throughout the Commonwealth, as well as in the UK, was dubbed into Spanish for the Mexican market (as "Skippy el canguro"), and was exported to other Spanish speaking countries including Cuba and Spain. As well as being broadcast in European countries such as Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, it crossed the Iron Curtain and was aired in Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union. It was also broadcast in Iran.

Series was revived in 1992, "The Adventures of Skippy" with Sonny Hammond as the father of twins played by Simon James and Kate McNeil..

The appeal of this old show probably lies more in the unfamiliar locations and shots of strange looking animals than in the storylines. The plots are very similiar to the US series 'Fipper' and are unmemorable. Gary Pankhurst does a decent enogh job as Skippy's human friend.
