The Spanish Gardener

Synopsis
A British consul in Spain, a cold and distant man, brings his 10 year old son with him. The boy is eager for friendship and guidance, which he does not find in his cold father but in Jose, the local handyman brought in to tend the consul's garden. When the father realizes that his property (his son) is in some way being taken from him, he uses his power, in the same frigid, impersonal way he does everything else, to separate the two.

3 / 10 OK but the book is better, as is Hunted, which also stars Dirk Bogarde and Jon Whiteley together.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10 This was a good one. The synopsis is a little unfair to the father, he doesn't view his son as "property" he feels jealous and worries the boy's love for the gardener will weaken their relationship.

This was, indeed, an interesting film for me. Jon Whiteley was awesome. Dad takes his boy to his new post in Spain hoping he will strengthen the father-son relationship. Instead, the boy found the gardener more attractive than his Dad. And of course, Dad gets jealous. Incidentally Dirk Bogarde also gets "fixated" on a boy in Death in Venice.
