Synopsis
"Special friendships" are youthful relationships with homoerotic overtones, and this film explores them in the setting of a strict French Catholic boys' boarding school in the 1930s. The teachers are ever alert, depriving the students of all privacy. When a vulnerable fifteen-year old boy, cooperates with his teachers' campaigns to repress all suggestion of impropriety in his own and others' friendships, he betrays everyone most important to him.

9 / 10 What a beautiful performance by Didier and what a heartbreaker of a film.
I finally found a crude copy of this film that I knew someone had sent me years ago. It is broken down into 17 separate clips! I would give a lot to find a really fine copy.

10 / 10 BOY ACTOR OSCAR RATING. This marvellous French film, despite the DVD I have being from a poor print, shines through as one of the greatest boy films ever. Not only does it deal with the controversial subject of boylove but provides a performance from Didier Haudepin, who plays the young Alexandre, worthy of an Oscar award. This French boy actor's playing of a flirtatious, attractive boy in an oppressive Catholic school is hugely impressive.
