Biography
Robert - who soon adopted the nickname 'Buzzy' in the tradition of ridin' boys such as Buzz Barton - won a medal for trick riding at the age of two in a Colorado rodeo, and soon found himself starring in westerns. John Holmstrom writes of him that "he was a very untypical ridin' boy: sensitive-looking (with soulful brown eyes), slender, almost delicate." Buzzy was the boy rider of the silver screen for a period of about ten years, though he continued to feature in movies for many years afterwards, and was even seen in popular films of the Sixties, such as "Shenandoah" (1965). He was also a technical adviser and stunt coordinator, and was frequently the 'second unit director', as in "The Cowboys" (1972). After his work on the latter, Universal Pictures contracted him to direct his first movie; at this point, however, his career and life were cut short by an auto accident.
